Rooney Toons...
Well it was a painful day on Sunday. Watching Newcastle self-destruct at Old Trafford... Again... In 6 minutes Wayne Rooney struck twice, and it was over...
After Souness was sacked, we've pulled up our socks and given 110%, and I was hopeful that with a good performance we might get something, we looked not too bad at first and then BAM, a sloppy backpass and Rooney was in... then then within a few minutes he was in again, shrugging off Ramage again and slotting home...
It could have been much worse actually, but ManUre were a bit sloppy actually, phew!
Second half I felt we actually played quite well, moving to a 4-5-1 we saw a lot more of the ball, but Man U actually defended quite well and we were unable to break them down and create many chances to get back into it...
Next up is Liverpool... They're not going to be too high on confidence, they'll been struggling to score lately, have been knocked out of the Champions League and lost this weekend to Arsenal, and now this match is back on OUR turf! It's too bad Owen isn't playing, but hopefully Dyer will be back in contention for a start, regardless we should be roared on with huge home support and I think will have a right go at them... I think if we can nick an early goal and keep the pressure on we will have every chance of winning this one... Based on other results it's looking unlikely that we can get back into contention for 6th or 7th, just too many teams in the way, and expecting them all to drop points week after week I think is asking too much, but all we can do is worry about picking up points, if we can go on another decent run, then perhaps the last few weeks of the season WILL get interesting...
Triple "S"-tacy....
A well deserved victory for the
Toon takes us to 10th in the league, our highest position so far, and we're now seriously mounting a challenge for a european spot!
Goals from
Solano,
Shearer and
Shola gave the 3 points to Newcastle today... Although Newcastle was again looked over by the Canadian TV companies, I was able to watch the game on
PPLive, DragonTV, the stream wasn't the greatest, and Chinese commentary, but it was better than nothing! :) Our next two matches will be very tough, (away to Man United, home v Liverpool) but now on a 6 game unbeaten run, we'll head into them full of confidence!
